Channel 56 Cupcakes, Cake Pops Galore!

Cake Boss campers spent the day using decorating bags and tips to frost mini-cupcakes and also made cake pops!
They worked in their design groups to "create" a bakery. Their task was to create a bakery name, a signature item to sell, and develop price points for all items to be sold in their bakery. Some bakery names that were created were Sweet Stix, Coco Bakery, Swirly Pop, and Petite Bakery. This week was filled with fun, laughter, creativity, and sweetness!!

Channel 56 Bakers

Bakers spent the morning in Project Adventure. First they walked across a slack line, testing their balance And developing trust in each other. Then they braved the Pamper Pole, which required he girls to climb a pole, balance on the top of it, and jump off into the air.

In the afternoon they learned to bake a cake from scratch, made mini-cupcakes, and decorated a cake with fondant. It was a great day!

Rain, Rain, GO AWAY!

Today was stormy here at Butler Campus.  Luckily, we were still able to swim in the morning because Ursuline's pool is inside.  The campers really enjoying having some unstructured swim time and love using the kickboards and noodles to float around.  While at the pool, girls of Channel 56 participated in Project Adventure.  The girls were able to do the Catwalk and some of the girls also got to do the Burma Bridge before the rain came.  When Magic Tree House Camp and Daring Camp arrived back to camp from swimming it had already started raining (boo!) .  We made the most of it by crafting in the lodge and playing games out in the pavilion.  Daring Campers made beautiful 4th of July star wreaths, while Magic Tree House Campers made fireworks hats!  Quite impressive!

The bus stayed at camp today to help shuttle us up to the Butler Center for lunch, bring us back to the lodge and to take the girls of Channel 56 to the Fairmount House for an afternoon of baking and decorating!

Although, wet and rainy, and definitelty not an ideal day of camp, we all made the best of it!  There is no camp tomorrow!

We wish you all a safe and happy 4th of July!

Magic Tree House: Revolutionary War on Wednesday

Magic Tree House stepped back into time today as they began talking about the 18th century with the book Revolutionary War on Wednesday. Leading the group this week is Caitlin Moury, a teacher at Laurel School and Hayley Elszasz, a recent Laurel graduate. The morning was off to a very good smelling start as the campers each made a Pomander Ball. They talked about what pomander balls are used for (making things smell good) and why they were used (because people didn't shower much back then!). Boys and girls enjoyed a morning creek walk and particularly liked ending the day with some large group games with Daring Camp and Channel 56- specifically Dead Ant Tag. Stay tuned for more!

Please remember that tomorrow is swimming- campers should wear their bathing suits under their clothes, bring a towel and a change of clothes!

Daring Camp: Dare to be a Hero!

Daring Camp was off to a goofy start with a game called Human Pinball!  Followed by Project Adventure, which promotes teamwork and building trust.  The campers really enjoyed going on the elements called Mohawk Walk
Leading Daring Camp this week is Nicole Nanchoff, a teacher and coach at Laurel School, and Rory O'Shaughnessy, a Laurel graduate.  Another highlight of the day was tie-dying patriotic t-shirts! These may certainly come in handy on Freaky Friday as it is Patriotic Day!
There are so many more fun things planned for us this week! Stay tuned!

Please note: Swimming is tomorrow, campers should wear their bathing suits to camp and bring a towel and change of clothes!

Channel 56: Cake Boss!

Ready, set, BAKE!  The girls of Channel 56 kicked off the week right with an up close personal tour of Luna Bakery in Cleveland Heights.  Along with a tour, girls also decorated cupcakes with fondant and buttercream icing. Their cupcake creations were amazingly creative and looked delicious!

Leading the group is Becki Dina and Christy Cardillini, who have both spent a lot of time brushing up on their cake decorating skills for this week!  Butler Campus, the girls worked with decorating bags and tips to create flowers, leaves, ribbons, and more. Throughout the rest of the week they will learn to bake a cake from scratch, mix their own buttercream icing, and create shapes in fondant. The girls will be able to learn techniques for decorating cakes and cupcakes and will also spend time working in teams this week as they work on different cakes for mock clients.

Please note, tomorrow is Project Adventure.  Tennis shoes should be worn for safety.
